Are you wondering how will you make it through that first plane ride with your toddler? Don't worry. I did. Here's how...
I'll keep this as simple as possible. Crafting is something that I absolutely adore. I often buy things ahead of time and use a scavenger hunt approach in thrift stores. Sometimes, I buy things not knowing at the time what I want to do with it but, I know my crafty mind with figure it all out later. I purchased this used suitcase without the wings for $5 bucks. It left two velcro marks just behind the carrier extension. I purchased this clear "Dry Eraser Pocket" from the Dollar Tree and used velcro to attach it to the existing velcro strips. I created an awesome way to store her books and crayons for easy access on and off the plane.
I also packed her favorite snacks, I created a sensory play box with legos, beads, and other items that would keep her engaged while flying. I also, brought along her iPad and kid friendly sound adjusted headphones which was a huge hit while watching the movies that the airline provided. I downloaded her favorite movies from Netflix as backups. I also made sure that I did my research on each airport that we visited during our connecting flights.
I wanted to know if and where their play areas were before arrival, how quickly could I find them during layover times and were there any designated places to nurse while there. I made sure she had play time and this allowed her to stretch her legs, release a lot of energy and enjoy every part of traveling.
I discovered this wonderful nursing pod called "Mamava" while in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I was able to download there app and it automatically opened the door once the app accessed my location within a few feet of the pod, there were electrical outlets to plug up your pump and the atmosphere was amazing. I had the opportunity to lower the lights so Nubian could sleep. I also met an awesome mommy that joined me to pump while traveling away from her son.
I have to admit the Mamava was the highlight of my traveling time. Nubian was sleepy, hungry, and this gave us the privacy we needed while enduring a three hour layover with a toddler. Thank you, Mamava.
