The Powerful Name "Nubian"

Updated: May 7, 2019

I can't believe it's been two years since I gave birth to the most amazing little person. Nubian is loving, outgoing, sensitive, playful, witty, smart, and beautiful. I appreciate every aspect of who she is. I have come to realize that a "name" really does hold its weight when it comes to how a person perceives themselves. In 2013, I was doing a lot of research about various countries in Africa. I fell in love with the people of Nubia, its culture, and rich heritage during its greatest dynasty.

I felt a deep connection with the name "Nubian". I knew that my first child would be a "girl". My dream came true. On the day you were born "Moon-na-mu-top-pa-'s" new queen was born. Nubian carries the energy, etymology, onomatopoeia, and knowledge of her African name in her heart. Moonnamutoppa was named Nubia after it's conqueror. Which was a common practice. I wanted to make sure that she was given the knowledge of both names and the option later in life to gravitate to which one she sees fit. We were a great people before slavery and colonization. We ruled. The Nubian people gave mathematics, science, writing, and the arts to the world. They were also very wealthy and had cities filled with some of the best luxuries of its time. Remember! "You never steal anything that doesn't have value".

Nubia is the Mother of Egypt. Ethiopia is the Mother of Nubia, Somalia, and Kenya. Uganda is the Grandmother of Egypt. Nubia passed on its culture to Egypt her daughter. With a name so powerful. There is nothing that Nubian can't accomplish just like the ancestors did from this region. She was born royalty. My prayer is that she reflects often on her name, realizes that she and her name are one and the same. If you are called the name of a people who gave everything to the world, there is nothing that you can't do.

Words have creative power, they have the ability to invoke blessings and curses in your life. I'm so thankful that with the help of the Creator of ALL that we have changed the world by bring Nubian forth. She is a child of the promise and a rainbow baby after the storm. We love you Nubian. Happy 2nd Birthday.

"Children are the reward of life."
